The strange workings of my mind.
Tucked away in the corners of my grade school notebooks, amidst the scribbles of arithmetic and the diagrams of science, were the beginnings of my comic book adventures. Even then, much to the consternation of the nuns, I found solace and joy in sketching out characters and crafting stories that danced across the pages.
Despite the nuns' best efforts to dissuade me, my love for comics only grew stronger. For me, comics transcend mere entertainment; they are a canvas for boundless creativity and expression. Even when my early attempts fell short of perfection, I remained steadfast in my belief in their potential.
My journey into the world of comics was shaped by the works of visionaries like Matt Wagner, whose "Mage: The Hero Discovered" introduced me to a realm where mythology and modernity intertwined seamlessly. Scott McCloud's "Zot!" opened my eyes to the limitless possibilities of storytelling within the comic medium, inspiring me to push the boundaries of my own imagination. And then there was "Elfquest" by Wendy and Richard Pini, a saga that captivated me with its rich tapestry of characters and its exploration of themes both fantastical and deeply human.
These comics, more than mere ink on paper, were beacons of inspiration that illuminated the path ahead. They showed me that comics could be so much more than the stereotypes perpetuated by the media and even the admonitions of the nuns. They were windows into worlds where anything was possible, where heroes could rise from the unlikeliest of places and where imagination knew no bounds.
As I continue on my journey as a comic creator, I carry with me the lessons learned from these luminaries. Their influence courses through every line I draw and every story I tell, reminding me that within the pages of a comic book, magic awaits for those brave enough to seek it.
At the end of the day, the work I enjoy the most is when the audience feels connected to my art. There's nothing worse than an audience that doesn't react to you and just watches passively, it’s like shouting into the void. Which is frustrating.
I'm very lucky to have found an audience for my cartoons, and they have been incredibly supportive. I hope you’ll become one of my fans, and maybe even commission me to bring your chibi dreams to life. I hope we are able to work together soon!
